Wyoming 500 Rider

Just found this site, wish I would have found it sooner, excellent info for a 500 rider!  I bought a 91 500 about 5 months ago and love it. After spending the last few years riding Honda XR's I didn't know what I was missing untill a friend let me ride his KX. I fell in love with the power so I bought it from him.

Most of my riding since I bought the bike has been hillclimbing. We have alot of steep, long hills with really loose soil that rob alot of horse power. So far, as long as I can keep from looping out, I can usually top most hills. I tried my hand at an AMA sanctioned hillclimb in august, found out it takes more fineness than I am used to. Next year I am going back with a few more mods ( pipe, heavier flywheel, longer swingarm and ? )

I love how versatile these bikes are, from trail riding with the kids in the mountains to wide open crosscountry riding, it's been my top all around favorite bike. I'm sorry Kawasaki decided to discontinue the big bore 2 stroke. I'll just have to keep rebuilding!

Welcome! I am also in WY(Cheyenne). I also ride a '91 500.  Was that you in the latest Dirt Ryder issue(Billings Hillclimb)?  As for the flywheel weight, I love mine.  It takes some of the snap out of the bike but allows you to put more of the power to the ground(less wheel spin).  I know Paul would disagree.  But he is a much more talented rider than I am plus being 40 years old, the less i have to fight for control...the more I can enjoy the bike.
