Title: swingarm issue
Post by: gwcrim on June 20, 2011, 12:24:13 AM
I have a situation with my suspension linkage.  The linkage knuckle gets pinched in the swingarm when it's tightened.  I have the swingarm off to get the chain adjusters drilled out.  Should I have it machined to give more clearance for the knuckle?  If so, how much?

What is your bike? Year and model?
I would not machine anything.
I would carefully inspect all your bearings, inserts, and seals and replace everything that is bad.
These are some of the most overlooked parts on a bike and are often bad.
If you are not sure what parts are all there, go to bikebandit and check the diagram for your bike.

Do not machine your swingarm, you more than likely have issues with your bearings, sleeves or the washers, as stated what bike is it? ther should be special washers that fit against the sleeves to keep the right clearance.

It appears to have been a bad bearing, upon closer inspection.  Clearance is tight on that linkage but I now believe the bearing is the cause of the binding.... and the horrible low speed ride quality.

Now do I have the adjusters drilled and replaced with inserts or get another swingarm.....?

I have drilled them out many times and put a threaded insert in them.
They have always held up really well.
