tuck, that link involves painting the plastics in the end. i would save up money to buy a new tank, but if lack of funding is an issue to purchase a new tank i would go ahead and maybe try to paint it. but i caution you, the paint on a tank will not last for a long period of time. those fuel vapors will bleed through and bubble the paint. i put brand new tank decals on my sons 96xr100 last summer and they didn't last 2 months before they had nasty huge distorting bubbles under those decals. there went 35 bucks in nos graphics down the crapper. i don't think i will ever install tank graphics on a bike ever again unless its a steel tank. by the way, try not to let your bike sit out in the sun on a hot day. although there is a vent hose on the cap for pressure, i think the additional temperature it puts in the tank pushes more vapor into the plastic. always park the bike in the shade or in the garage.

all im looking for is glossy clear coat that can with stand a fuel spill

Ive seen tanks that were wet sanded then buffed that came out pretty nice. Its alot of work though. Ive been restoring a 84 Red KDX200 that had a chalky tank. It looks alot better than it did but its far from perfect. I coated it with Plastic Renew but that wont withstand a gas spill. It will be used for vintage class racing so Im not too concerned.

Yes, you can wet sand and buff and they will look a lot better but I have never seen one that had had been repaired to the original color unless painted and as stated above, paint just does not last unless it's a metal tank.

Yours appears to be in very good shape, why even bother with it? Mine on the other hand looks way worse, I used some mr clean extra power magic erasers on it and it looks a bit better now...

nah i put a crappy clear coat on it, i spilled gas all over it and the clear coat is almost gone. so...

Magic erasers work good, but beware after multiple uses the gloss will be taken away and you will need to use something to bring back the shine.

id rather ''fix up'' my old tank than buy a new one. the oem tank is discontinued but i know where to get a NOS oem tank for $283 inc. shipping. is that a good deal?
