Reminds me of when I was surfing in Hawaii and fell into a patch of Sea Urchins.
No fun believe me  :x

Here's what they look like in Idaho,,,smaller but still very uncomfortable. My buddy landed on one 10 minutes into the ride he spent an hour try to pick quils out with a leatherman pliers.

Some of the Cactus around here has an outer barbed sheath around the needle. You pull the needle out but the sheath stays embedded. Then the festering begins! There are many different types of Cholla cactus around Nevada. I've been lucky with the type where the entire needle comes out unless it breaks. I think the guy in the video encountered the lesser of the evils! If I know ahead of time where the ride is planned and I know Cholla is around I ride somewhere else!

We have all different kinds of Cactus here. That stuff in your pic can penetrate your average riding gear and cause some serious problems if it finds it's way into an artery, eye or joint!

My last desert race here  in Arizona was full of cholla cactus. I had pieces of it stuck in me everywhere I was not covered in plastic.  Very nasty stuff and so hard to get off of someone else. You get it off of them and it is stuck on you. Cholla sucks.

Bacterial Necrosis (flesh eating bacteria) has been documented as a result of certain types of cactus wounds.
