Hi,
Looking for a KX for tarmac racing - any advice appreciated ?

There is lots to look through here KXF,
For myself it's always been about how fast you can afford to go?
I know it's not what guys like to hear. Set yourself a realistic budget and start your research.
The bikes are pretty much the same '89-'04 so that's probably where you might consider starting.
This is also where I think you'll find the most Parts availability.
Welcome & Best of luck!

Thanks FT - that's helpful.
I've seen a 1990 model on ebay - completely rebuilt.
Anything in the engine that's a known weakness ?

Now that the bikes are getting old, most have to be gone through just as preventative maintenance.
There have been several guys discussing third gear dogs wearing and popping to neutral, (it may be third is just used more than the others). It seems the key in the flywheel pops up a few times a year, and the carb body, slide & needles have usually seen better days. Most guys who have been around a while will go through a new purchase just to be sure all is well. A gasket kit and consumeables will run about $100.00 and can be marked off as "Insurance", and getting everything up to snuff will give you a good baseline to work off of.

Know of anyone getting rid of one in the uk ?
The later the model the better.
