Title: What fuel oil ratiois best.
Post by: rocman5190 on May 18, 2010, 09:20:23 AM
ive always used 32:1 ratio which is standard. I bought a small bottle of bel-ray h1r oil which is only 12.8 oz. bottle . the guys said to mix it with 5 gallons of fuel. my question is....... now this isn't the correct ratio.   this is closer to a 50:1 ratio..  i don't want to short change my engine on oil lubrication. should i just buy another container of the h1r and bring ratio back to 20oz for the 32:1... thanks in advance....pat..

I have always run Belray at 50 to 1 , I currently run a different oil and run it at 70 to 1. Running a 50 to 1 mix you may have to rejet , maybe 1 size smaller since this is a richer fuel mix , a good oil can be run 50 to 1 with no problems as long as the jetting is right . So the question for you is do you want to rejet and save a little money on oil , or spend a little for oil and not have to mess with it.CBX

the factory had the 32:1 to cut down on warranty claims . they knew most peop[le would not or did not know how to adj. the carb. 50:1 works great with a good oil premix.

Agreed with K5, adding to...They also base it on using a conventional oil, not a synthetic. We mix at 40:1 using Amsoil Dominator ot Motorex 2T. (same/same)

I personally feel more oil is better. I run 32:1 with h1r on my kx125.  I have thought about running less, but I would rather spend a little more on oil and less on rebuilds.

This is a short post about choosing your mix ratio:

This is an interesting article that discusses whether to use more or less oil:

In my KX125 and my nephew's CR80 Expert I run Yamalube 2R at 32:1. I have jetted both bikes to run great at this mix. Well almost on the CR. The throttle response is great throughout the range but still some splooge out of the silencer. The plug looks good, it runs great, and it doesn't foul plugs so I haven't messed with it after the last re-jet.

I used to run Bel-Ray at 40:1 in my KX250, but I sold that bike years ago and now like 32:1 in my small bores.

I've had good luck with Lucas semi-synthetic two-stroke oil at 32:1 in my TRX250R's.  I mix it at 40:1 for the weedeater and chainsaw.  Not sure which mix I should feed my son's soon-to-be-finished KX60.  I see there's a pdf on this site that shows Team Green ran 40:1 in their KX60's.
