Title: 2010 KX450 exhaust on a 2009
Post by: newp500 on February 02, 2010, 12:09:17 AM
Has anybody tried a 2010 exhaust on a 2009? Would you have to re-map for the different angle? Reason being is the 2010 head pipe is flush with the radiator and the 09' hangs out. I race in tight woods and would like to run the 2010 to save the head pipe from a possible crash.  The stainless steel would be stronger than 09' titanium also.

I don't have your answer but I know the problem.  I have 3 riding buddies with 450's and all 3 have dented pipes at the bend.

I'm picking the bike up tonight from the dealer. I'm going to pull the 10' off and put it on the 09' to make sure it fits. I would think the efi would take care if it was leaner/richer, but I know nothing about efi.

The bike would need some kind of 02 sensor for such things. I'm not sure about the EFI system on the Kaw but I suspect its basic EFI such as engine temp, air temp, manifold pressure, etc. The EFI system would need something to read how much oxygen is in the exhaust flow. I think this EFI stuff on bike dirt is all based on engine temp, air temp, engine speed, throttle position for base information for timing and fuel curve. But maybe somebody can provide better information. What about a head pipe guard?

What about a head pipe guard?

The stock has a guard, but not very good at protecting it. The 10' pipe does fit perfect on the 09'. I'm going to order one and try it and see if there is a change in power or if it runs lean/rich. I want to wait until spring to test, but might have to mount a set of ice tires on it to find out sooner. :-D
