Title: Hellow from Tucson
Post by: gray hair on January 18, 2009, 05:15:43 AM
Hi,
My name is Brian, I'm 42 married with children and have just gotten back into off road riding after a 20 year break. I raced motocross back in the mid 80s but had to give it up to raise a family. Did 20 years in the military and retired. Got me a state job now and some time to ride again. Picked up a used 01 KX 500 off of Crag?s list for $1,000. Bike had been overheated so I got the cylinder and head cleaned and re-plated to stock dement ions. I'm only 160lbs and this thing runs like a raped ape! I do a lot of desert riding, so I'm looking for lighting mods and trail tech ideas. Glad to be here.

Hi to all,
Glad to be here because it's not what you know, it's who you know! A one-stop shop for tech tips, riding spots, and gear tests. What more could you ask for.
As I said before, I have been away for many years, but always followed the dirt bike scene. I am a 2stroke holdout, cuz I love the power delivery and 4 strokes just don't do it for me. I have ridden a YZ450F, DRZ 400, and an XR 650 (Wow heavy!). All great bikes with a smooth power delivery, but there is nothing like short shiftin a big bore smoker and having it stretch your knuckles:>)
I eventually intend on getting out to the MX track to do a few laps, but right now, I'm just rippin the desert up when I can and looking for an affordable lighting sys and a way to carry more pre-mixed fuel. Yea, I know. 4-strokes don?t need pre-mix, but they don't smell right either:>)
Thanks again and glad to be here.
 Brian.

Brian,  I am from Tucson too.  I ride every weekend, usually with just one other guy.  We have had some big ride to Benson and also on the Empire ranch.  I just got a KX500 and will need to do a little adjusting to it, but will ride any Saturday you want.  I am 53 and still ride as fast as some of my 20 and 30 year old riding buddies.  Give me a shout if you want to ride some Saturday.
