Title: quad input

I hate to admit it, but I'm looking for a kwad.  My little girl won't ride bikes so maybe she can ride a kwad with my GF.  What I'm looking for is something SAFE that could haul around a couple of light weight women.  The GF is all of 5'3" and maybe 110 lbs.

I think I'd like a 4x4 but are they too hard to steer?

A neighbor likes Hondas because of the automatic transmission.  How important is that vs a belt?

How much displacement is needed?

I'm sure I'd use it from time to time for two up with the GF or maybe trail maintenance.

I'm open to suggestions.

There are not to many 2 up quads out there! How about a RUV like the TeryX?

Side by sides are very kewl but I'm afraid of clearance in narrow trails.  That plus until I know how it works out, I'm thinking of spending under $4000 on a used piece.

Yes you are correct the trail width is an issue!  The Polaris Sportsman 500 Touring is th smallest 2 up Quad I know about. Wonder if you could find a used one?

A friend of mine has two Polaris Scrambler 400 2 wheel drives. One for his wife (built engine/trans) and one that is an extra quad that he has insane amounts of work (performance, powdercoating etc.) into that could be a magazine bike. Before these two he had two '00 models that were both stock that I spent quite alot of time on at the dunes and in the Cascade Mnts in Oregon on trails and fire roads. They are cake to ride as they are electric start, and you just put them in drive and go. They have a great reverse as well. The front brake lever works front and rear brakes together, and the foot brake works just the rear. They are easy to putt around on but are quite fun for an intermediate rider to tear around on too. If you must have 4WD then they also make the Scrambler 500 4x4 that is basically a 4WD version of the same bike. Also, they are oil injected 2 strokes so no mixing of fuel.

The first 4wheeler I bought was a Polaris 500 Sportsman. My daughter (started at 13) rides it and has even ridden it up some very gnarly trails. I love bikes and especially single track trails that quads can't ruin. But I found out quads have a lot of advantages too,, like hauling lots of stuff. But they do roll and in an open spot they don't stop for a long time,, I totaled an 800 Sptsmn first ride out,,insured luckily. So I have had an 800 Sptsmn, and just bought the 850 XP Sptsmn,, it's sweet. Good luck

Found a smokin' deal on an '08 Kawi Prarie 360 4x4.  Needs nothing but tires.  I'll pick up one of those rear seat/trunks for it and see how it goes.

Will these things respond to a rejet and air cleaner like most bikes?
