Title: Maxxis IT Desert tire
Post by: hughes on June 18, 2007, 05:25:35 AM
Anybody running one of these tires? I am replaceing my millville tire with one this week. Sorry kxcam22 I love the millville just these sharp rocks are killing the tire. I had the maxxis IT before just not the desert tire unsure if their is any real changes, looks the same.

The Desert IT is a long wearing tire but my only experience is on a 250.  I'm sure the 500 will wear it out faster but if longevity is what you are looking for that is the way to go.  If you are looking for a long wear front try the Pirelli MT18.  It is a DOT approved tire and it's a little slippery in the dirt but after one play ride and two races it has barely worn the hairs off the knobs.

Hughes,
A lot of tire choice is trial and error.  The Maxxis IT is the most popular tire here because of the rocks and the tires longevity.  Maybe I should try one next.  Cam.

I have ran the IT and the Millville and the millville wins as far as traction but doesn't handle the rocks. I plan on riding my bike for the rest of this year then it's getting retired and restored again for some vintage racing. That's when I will go back to the millville. We'll be running grass track or old school motocross tracks.

Haven't ran Maxxis, but can verify Millville is a good tire, if you are referring to the Kenda tire named that. I also have ran the Carlsbad and Washougal. The Washougal was a sub for my Carlsbad and I like it even better. Very good hook up and very wear resistant. The pirelli 's that I really like is the MT 44. It has a scoop in the center, that makes it  a directional tread, but real good traction especially when new. I put my money on the Kenda on wear and it also is much cheaper.
