Title: Helmet Cam's - New Post for Old Topic
Post by: FuriouSly on May 17, 2006, 06:22:08 PM
Hello all, I was looking through some old topics and found one about Helmet Cams.  I thought I would let you know the unit that I use for myself.  I bought it off of eBay from a very reliable seller.   Here is his eBay store:   Click Here (http://stores.ebay.com/extreme-helmet-cams)

High quality video easily edited in with the Digital Video camera I use to make video DVD's or what have you.  I currently am using the 480 line res. EX-View and suggest the same model or the newer 580 line res. Ex-View.  The aluminum mount is killer and is very tough.

I keep the Video Camera in a fanny pack turned around to the front where I can gain quick access to it.  It holds the 8 AA batts that run the Helmet Cam.  Here is a shot of it on the helmet I use for filming:   Click Here (http://webzoom.freewebs.com/4sly/Pictures/Pixs/Dumont%20022006/Sly%20Cam%20Dumont%20021706.jpg)

Anyways, thought someone might like some info on a killer Helmet Cam Set-up.

Sly, I also have a Helmet Cam and it is kind of a pain in the but to use it is great to have the video's to watch. Which program are you using to edit your video's?  I find that I get hung up in the time it takes to finish what I started. The other thing is I bought my camera first and then the cam and I have to start the camera and jip up the bag and some times it gets turned off inside the pack. That always happens when I am taking my best video.

You have some great stuff on your site!

Check out  "El Paso Desert" on my other site at this link!

I use Pinnacle Systems Studio Plus 9 MovieBox DV right now.  They have Studio 10 out right now.  This software is pretty simple to use, and is upgradable incrementaly.  Here is their website:  Click Here (http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/Products/Consumer+Products/Home+Video/Studio+Family/)

I also unzip my fanny pack, start recording and then zip it back up.  When I download the video to my PC, I will save any footage that I want to keep to DVD for that trip as well as a video if I made one.

The trick with Helmet Cams is to ride super close to your subject since the camera tends to have a wide angle to the view.  I find getting in the roost as inevitable if you want some decent footage.  Also, you can get on the subjects outside and shoot them from there.

Robert.

I have the Studio Plus 9 software also, but I have been using Microsoft movie maker just because it is easer for me to use.  You are correct about the wide angle nature of the cams, you have to be on top of each other to make it look good.

Helmet cams can be a blast, I've been playing with one for 3 years. I use studio 9 plus for my editing. Here is where I bought mine. http://www.helmetcamera.com/

It's only spam if it's unwanted. We like cool stuff, the roll over looked real fun but only from the out side. Hope they were OK.
