Title: Clutch and kick starter gear

My son has a 1999 kx250 and is putting in a new clutch basket assembly, we got the old one out and got the gears off the old basket. Videos show a washer on the kick starter gear but we did not see one there. Should one be there? Is it ok to assemble it without one if one was not there?

Check a kawasaki parts site they have a exploded view on every part.
