Title: Urgent: 2003 KX125 Rear Shock Linkage
Post by: Devil on April 15, 2019, 11:08:33 AM
I have been looking ALL over the internet for a rear shock linkage for my 2003 KX125 I'm trying to do a ground up restore. The part number is 39007-1306. It looks like it is no longer manufactured. I have tried a local dealer, Ebay, Craigslist, Partzilla, and whatever other random websites I'm on. I also tried to find a KX250 rear swing arm and shock linkage but it is also unavailable everywhere. I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction for a part out, or something before I have to have this custom made. THANKS!

Is your missing, or just in bad shape?  You might be able to fix yours with a little patience, heat, and vapor blasting.  This bike was a one year wonder (rear suspension wise), and it may make it hard to find parts.  There seems to be quite a few 1999-02 bikes that are being parted out.  It might be worth your time to try the linkage off those bikes.  You can always sell it later.

Just did a search on eBay, and the 1999-02 parts are pretty scarce too.  If you have the linkage, post some pictures and let's see how bad it is.  Also, are you needing just the dog bones, or the whole linkage?

They sure do seem to be scarce!

So I do have a damaged linkage. It has been wearing away inside one of the cylinders where the bearings would go for god knows how long. When I tore the bike apart in the first place I noticed it, so I pressed out all the bearings & bushings. It seems that 2 of the 3 cylinders are okay and I will be able to press in the new bearings. I have attached photos of the bad one. The only thing I could think of is filling it in with welds and machining the whole back to its original state. But further I also don’t know the damaged cylinders correct size as the other two seem to be 1” and a 16th. The damaged one seems to be smaller, which I’m pretty sure is the one that connects to the rear shock.

If you order the bearings, you can measure the size of the other bearings and the difference in size to the hole, then use the shock bearing size to work back to how big the hole should be. I hope that makes sense.  :-D

From those pics it looks like the outer bearing is still in that hole.
Press it out, clean it up and press in a new bearing.

I’m almost certain that is actually the cast aluminum damaged and created a burr along the outside edge. The bearing was probably bad and sitting on an angle wearing away the cast. But I’ll have a closer look!

Send it to me.
I'll press out the outer bearing sleeve, clean it, and send it back.
Please remove all your bearings and seals and de-grease it.

If interested, PM me, if not, no worries, I'm good
Sandblaster will make it look like new.

after you renew the bearing and you can use the bearing out of kxf which have a wax sought of stuff between the needles different part number ,new seals and sleevs are a must to reduce play and grease often, dont forget to do the swingarm bearings and bolt while your at it could save you the hassle of getting a seize bolt out later.

Hey All. Here’s an update! It turned out that the linkage was damaged and NOT the bearing housing left over. So I had the linkage riemed out and a bronze sleeve made by the machinist here at my work. Pressed them into eachother and the linkage is better than new. Here’s a few photos:
