Hi all, I got an old KX 80 from a buddy at work. The thing is actually in pretty good shape but definitely needs a top end. Just a few quick questions:
VIN on the frame: JKAKXWG11GA007334
Serial #? on bottom end: KX080EE031260
On the cylinder, I found the numbers 0.0826
On the piston, I found the numbers D00G8, underneath that is 539M04800, and underneath that is CD.
What can you all tell me about this KX? I think it is an '86, maybe.
I'm going to need the cylinder honed and/or sleeved, and then I am obviously going to need a new piston, rings, pivot bearing, wrist pin, clips, etc. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good source for those parts? Anyone know of a good place to get the cylinder honed/sleeved. The closer to NYC the better.
The bike is just going to be a beat around bike for my kid to ride around the property, learn how to use a clutch, etc.
Lastly, no power valve on this bike. Kind of surprised by that. What year did they start coming with a pv?
Thanks in advance. All info welcome.

good chance it's an '86 going off the VIN chart...
post a pic or two of the bike, so we can get a look at it, when you get a chance

Will do. However, the top end is off right now. As are the rad shrouds, tank, pipe, rad, etc.

no problem...
this is what the '86 looks like...compare yours to this one,

Yup, same bike, although that one is a bit nice than ours.
Now just to get the cylinder taken care of and get the necessary parts for the top end. Should be up and running in no time.
