welcome to the site...
a couple things to look at...
was the head re-torqued to specs?...
and does that cylinder have a pressed in aftermarket sleeve that you know of?
also, what brand head gasket was used?
-
yes head was torqued to factory spec 18 ft lbs so i read that was spec....
i dont think its been sleeved head gasket is topendgasket.coms dependable gasket kit
-
Well, either way the head's gotta come off...hopefully some answers will expose themselves once you tear it down.
Who did the jug/head re-surfacing?
What I meant by "was the head re-torqued"...I meant did you re-torque it after the break-in process...sorry.
-
i resurfaced myself and yes it was re torqued after about 15 mins of running
-
I would inspect that head gasket very closely, and inspect the head closely.
What was your procedure for re-surfacing the head/jug?
Most of us like to use a compound called TimeSaver...it's just a powder form, and you mix a little bit with tranny fluid...and go in a figure 8 motion on a very hard flat surface....I use a 3/4" piece of glass I got from my local glass shop...others use a steel bench, or a piece of steel.
I'm not tryin to insult your intelligence by explaining all this, just tryin to help you.
-
no insults takin....im no master bike tech but an auto tech i am....i used a flat sanding block in steps from 400 600 then 1000 on both surfaces....they looked great no dark low spots on either
-
I myself would try a different gasket...either an OEM or Cometic....and if that doesn't do it, (again, I myself) would put a very thin layer of Yamabond4 on the head gasket, and call it good...even though that won't get you to the root of the problem(it's more like a Band-Aid), but it won't leak anymore.
You're not jetted ridiculously rich are you?
what ratio are you mixin the pre-mix?
-
when the top end was rebuilt...did you disassemble the KIPS valves and clean them thoroughly?
-
well the problem is i didnt do piston i only did cyl head as i got the bike from sumone who needed cash fast...so i couldnt say if power valve was cleaned i premix 32:1 plug looks perfect brown not black w spoog or white nice deep brown
-
the jug and piston were installed on bike i got it with head off n all parts....everything is there nothinf missing
-
ahhhh...kinda sounding like you bought someone else's headache now...did the previous owner give any reason as to why the head was off?
where around the head is the spooge leakin from, front, sides, back, or all around?
-
the head was off due to top end failure it clearly had a new piston in it he just never finished it....it seeping right at the right rear head bolt next to coolant port
-
Try a different gasket...OEM or Cometic
