Title: Sevice Honda looks to be kaput for AF's?
Post by: kxpegger on May 15, 2017, 08:39:45 AM
They were bought out and the name has changed. New owners claim that 500 parts are no longer available? That may be true for Honda but as far as I know Kawasaki is still making parts for the latest revision 500 motors?

You can't get a bunch of KX500 gears, cases, kick idler gear, two of the three shift forks... ect.
But no worries... KX Guru Racing is getting things done.... Most gears can be rebuilt or undercut, we can repair most cases but we are also working on billet cases (For 1,000,000 dollars a set), We are making bushings and bearings for the idler gear, and we are working on billet shift forks. So hang on to your pantyhose  :-o

I received an email from Service Honda "You are receiving this email because you have done business with ServiceHonda.com in the past".
Not going to click on the link.  I'll do a search on line.

I found this....

Unfortunatly because of the limited availability of two-stroke engines, and other parts used in the construction of the bikes these bikes are no longer being produced.  In the same way; most of the parts used in these bikes such as cylinder's, cases and frames are not available either.

We appriciate the loyalty of the Two Stroke riders - and will do what we can to get you the parts you need.  Just drop us a note using the chat or contat us page and we'll see what we can do.

Thank you,

The KX500 and CR500 motors are industry icons! I know they are long in tooth but there must still be enough parts demand to be viable for the Japanese (Kawasaki) to keep making parts? If I'm wrong so be it! Been buying KTM's since 2011 anyway. Long live my KX500AF!

If aliens stole all the Kawasaki two strokes tonight, we would all probably be riding pumpkins too. The Austrians love the two strokes almost as much as we do. I just wish Japan (minus Yamaha) could understand how many people there are like us.

World of power sports bought service Honda roughly maybe a year ago. They are a "mega dealership" style place and has only shown interest in the taking SH out of competition, rather than the AFC aspect of service Honda (most people forget service Honda has been a regular Honda dealership for ages). Last I heard was that AJ was going to continue to build cases and build aluminum frame conversions out of his garage under a different name. Contrary to popular belief, aj never actually owned service Honda, and the owner had inherited it and just wasn't interested, even though SH was profitable. I don't know how much of that is true though. Just what I heard from one of AJ's friends.

I wonder if FMF will now sell the AF pipes?

I somehow doubt it, they'd still be property of Service Honda, so ultimately, world of powersports would have to allow it.

there is a possibility that AJ has the rights to it, but at the same time that doesn't necessarily make it more likely for them to still be made. If FMF really wanted to they could just slightly "modify it" and then they could do it in theory.

It sounds like there might be someone else making cone pipes for conversions.  Sandblaster hinted about it in one of his posts.

That would be interesting. I would think that with the a sense of service Honda, it makes room for other businesses to profit. Interest in 500's seems to be growing rather than shrinking, so I'm sure sooner or later there will be no lacking of parts. Only piece of the puzzle missing is a manufactururer making them.

The cone pipes are still in the works.
The prototype works but they are still refining the design.
So It may be a while before they are available.
I'd contact AJ and see if he has any of those pipes for sale..

My kick starter acts up especially when about 50 degrees or colder. I think it is probably just a weak spring and thicker oil because of the temperature. Once the bike is warmed up the kick starter engages flawlessly. Found everything I needed for the kick start mechanism except the ratchet. Don't have the bike apart yet to see what the actual problem is but Rocky Mountain seems to have everything else though a few items backordered. Hopefully the backordered items are still available. The ratchet was listed as "not shipping" with no price. I can see things are going to get interesting. Any ideas for finding NOS so I don't have to spend hours online performing an Easter egg hunt? I know these parts are still out there somewhere... in a barn most likely! Will start to try and stock up on spare parts as money allows now that Kawasaki is dropping support. Late to the party on this one!

The ratchet 13078-007 is discontinued.
Jason at JT Engine Works has used a diamond grinding tip on my porting tool and hand worked those.
It's a pain to do but you can greatly improve them.

I'm such an idiot sometimes! In the back of my mind I'm thinking I at least have a new spring for the ratchet on the kick start mechanism. I thought I had consolidated all my 500 parts in one plastic bin but couldn't find the spring. Looked under my 71 Camaro on jack stands and found a medium sized cardboard box semi hidden and can see some "Genuine Parts" wrappers sticking up. Turns out I have a complete kick start and kick start mechanism which includes all the discontinued parts... spur (idler) and ratchet. Good day!
