Title: KXF250 cam chain
Post by: Mike-Evans on July 30, 2016, 08:05:34 PM
Looking for some kx250f advise.

My mate has acuired a 2010 kxf250 that hasnt run for a while, started spluttering and down on power when the previous owner had it and he left it in his shed for approx 18 months.....

I checked the timing marks and the cams were slightly out compared to the crank. Reset the timing, it started for a few seconds then cut out and wouldnt start again.

Cam chain is very loose - parts on order.

Checked the valve clearance earlier and both intake and exhaust are within owners manual spec.

First time Ive worked on a 4 stroke so just wondering if it is common for the cam chains to stretch so it will not run?

Also how often does the valve clearances go out of spec?

Cheers

Replace the cam chain but i would look carefully at the cam chain tensioner as well , people who dont clean and oil there air filter often and dust there engine have to do valve clearances very often , you know what i mean.
