Keep on riding!
I hope this doesn't sound like I am preaching! I have seen more of my buddies get hurt really bad just messing around before the get suited up to ride or after they have taken the riding gear off just goofing around before the load up! I am 59 and I still ride my V Force & my KX500 in the desert and dunes. I still can give the jack rabbits a hell of a run for there money!
Back in 1965 I toured Europe on a Triumph Bonneville, early one morning I laid it down in the south of France at over 100 mph! I had I had boots, gloves, full leathers and helmet! I came out of the crash with a scratch where the leather burned through on the pavement! That made me a believer in safety gear and I wear it all today! I even wear Asterisk Knee braces at $550 and I just added a motocross foam roll for neck protection! The bottom line is I love riding and I want to do it as long as possible and so I wear the best protection I can find! So come on guys make safety gear part of your riding so you can keep on riding even when you are and old fart like me!

Good advise Alan, its not worth injury to ride without equipment. I cant afford knee braces, but i do wear shin gaurds. I wont ride without them and I know alot of guys who dont and get hurt from branches and what not. There very affordable too!

I love my asterisks'! They are the best investment I've ever made when it comes to riding.

Yep after not walking for a year back in my 20's from a knee injury! They are the best! :D

Alan,
I couldn't agree more. As with most of us, I too have survived some pretty horrendous crashes with barely a scratch, thanks to lots of protective gear. My rule of thumb is "don't dress for the ride, dress for the crash". Cam.

It amazes me how many people I see on 4-wheelers at the dunes without even a helmet. I even flick s**t to some of them, especially when they have thousands tied up in a badass banshee, and they are riding with a baseball cap turned backwards..."Lemme guess, you spent so much money on your quad that you couldnt afford the brain bucket to go with it?" ...Idiots. I personally wouldnt ride without the minimum of helmet, goggles, riding boots, and gloves. If I could afford knee braces I wouldnt ride without them either. All I know is that EVERY time I go riding, I get really beat up. I would hate to see myself without any safety gear. The ONLY thing stopping me from wearing more safety gear is the $$$$$.

What kind of neck foam protection did you get?

I was thinking of getting the EVS-2,David Millsaps makes his own but I guess his are for preventing his helmet from breaking his collerbone.I would like some neck/whiplash protection also though.

To answer the question about my neck protector, I use
http://www.pcssafety.com/neck_support.htm#nssadult_15
The 1.5 inch and it comes in Kawie green! I tried the SIXSIXONE and it didn't fit me very well!
I have 5 bulging disc in my neck and one 1 in my low back and my spinal cord is being squeezed due to some narrowing in the channel it passes through in my neck vertebra. So I need all the safety gear I can find!

I'm thingking about buy a EVS Ballistic Jersey or a Sixsixone Pressure suit. These things offer chest, back, elbow, shoulder protection. Has anybody used one of these suits :?:
-
I have the Ballistic Jersey and really like it in cool conditions. In the summer it's too hot.
-
I had a SIXSIXONE Pressure suite and I ripped it the firsr time out! I think they have changed the materal since I bought mine!

O.k guys I have looked at many elbow, knee guards from sixsixone and evs sports. What are ya'll using that works well under riding pants and jersy. Can't afford 550.00 for knee braces but have found knee guards for aroud 25.00 to 50.00 same for elbow guards.

I just bought some new pants from Monkeybutt form Fly Racing. The thing I really like about them is the don't have any leather in the inside knees to mess up my graphics. Also they come in kawie colors!

I also have a pair of Thor Core's they are cool and well vented, but they mess up my graphics, with the leather knees!
Boots Tec. 6's, Moose chest protector, Asterisk knee braces and I have a couple of good rated helmets! 2 helmets because I mounted my helmet cam on one!
Alan
PS Here is a pic of my pressure suite that I destroyed on its first trip in the desert! I jumped thought a bush chasing a rabbit and left half of it on the bush!

I have a pair of knee braces that FOX was selling years ago,but there bulky and you need a lot of room in your pants to wear them and they wear the kees out of my pants fast and not to comfy.I normally wear the cheap Shift racing knee/shin guards, but had a get off going from 3rd to 4th that d**n near tore my pants off my leg above the knee, and slid the knee guards off my leg and tore my knee open and it swelled twice its normal size.So I think the nekt best thing to knee braces are the Thor force knee guards for about $60.00,about as close to a knee brace for the price as you can get.Never wore elbow guards untill a STEEP/near verticle hill climb (small mountain) went bad ,as I got near the top it was muddy and I caught traction in a dry spot and looped out, came off the bike and backflipped 3 or 4 times and chipped my elbow on a rock.Tried Oneal elbow guards for adults, what a joke! They wouldnt go up past my wrist they were so tight, sent them back and got Answer elbow guards for around $25.00.Only problem is them slipping down your arms,so I put dabs of silicone on the straps and keep them snug and they only slip when my jerseys wet (saftey pins may be the answer) but I recommend them.

I have a knee that could cost me thousands if I mess it up one more time and at my age that would end all my riding good!
I don't know if you guys remember when Bell came out with the Bell Star helmet, there ad slogan was " How Much Is Your Head Worth" ?
I guess mine was worth $150 back then! Its funny my body just gets more expensive every year!
Alan
