I just bought the bike and it runs good the problem someone changed the front forks and no seems to know what they are so as for now i have no front brakes or caliper. question is would it be better to try and find a used one or if i can upgrade it what forks would be a straight drop in.
THanks
joe

The forks should have some numbers embossed around the lower inside area.
What color are the uppers.
Also, what is the distance between the caliper mounting bolts?

I dont know exactly it might be better for me post some picture which i will do later. probably be easier that way.

Well I have not been able to take pictures of the forks i have a small garage and its been raining like crazy. So here is my next crazy question the bike is the right size for my son and i dont think he will grow that much more. So is it possible to put a kx250 engine in it without modifying anything or what would your suggestion be. he is to tall for a 85.

Not sure about motor swap or your son's skill set. But if you were thinking 85 except for size I wouldn't worry bout a 250 right yet anyhow. 200 is a good beginner motor or better yet get him a 125, and he can rip it for years

Well i am going to get some pictures up tommorow so someone might be able to get me some kind of idea of what they came up with. i will look for numbers but i didnt really see any.

That hose is just a vent tube. I have never had one leak anything. Is the trans over filled with oil?
Forks could be from anything from the late 80's like 125, 250, 500, or even a klx. Definitely not kdx cuz it doesn't have the trip meter gear housing provision. Measure the diameter of the chrome tube and we can start to narrow it down from there.
If you want to put it back to factory forks I do have everything except the cable and trip meter off a 91. Forks need new seals and oil. front wheel/hub is in good shape. Bearings seem to be useable but personally I would put new ones in since they are cheap. trip meter gear housing is in great shape after I cleaned all the grease and dirt out of it. Axle is also in good shape. Triple tree is clean, bearings may clean up and work just fine but they are covered in dirty grease and don't roll very good at the moment. Everything is out in the shed on a shelf.
