Title: 2012 KX250F Blown Motor
Post by: onesevenmx on March 25, 2013, 08:23:37 AM
My motor on my 2012 KX250F threw the rod after only 15 hours of riding. Has anyone else had this problem with this year bike?

2012? Sounds like a good start for a K5AF project...

There were some issues, but not the wrist pin end of the rod. It almost looks like the cylinder didn't get hurt, set of cases and a crank and you might be in business. You say 15 hrs, is this from new or from a rebuild, and if rebuild is that a stock crank or aftermarket? Do you have a good relationship with your dealer? I know mine would go to bat for me and probably get Kawasaki to fix it. most of the early issues with the 250f was around tranny bearings, no rod issues. looking again that crank doesn't look stock, aftermarket cranks have been known to fail, I only use OEM complete or Carrillo rods, they cost more but are worth it in the long run. I don't think the 12 would make a good AF project, with only one spring you may not be able to get a heavy enough spring for the 500.

Yes this is 15 hours from brand new. Everything is stock on the bike.

In regards to the idiot who posted "Rev limiter is not a shift light..." you probably don't know a d**n thing about dirtbikes and probably sit at home doing nothing all day except playing around on your computer. I'm surprised you even knew what a rev limiter is or do you? As a matter of fact, they put rev limiters on bike so that they do not over rev enough to blow up like this one did. The bike blew up shifting from first to second the rev limiter was never hit.

I would try to get Kawasaki to back that up...that's a catastrophic explosion for only 15hrs.I don't know what kind of relationship you have with your dealer...but as long as you don't go in there threatening to slash throats and blow heads off...I bet they'd be willing to help you out, maybe not 100% of the cost...but if they're a good dealer, they should work with you.Not only will that keep you happy and a customer, but it's good business for them to step up.

I used to work for the local dealership so I have a good relationship with them. I spoke with them earlier today and they said to bring the motor in so they can tear it down and see what happened then they will contact kawi about it.

You caught me new guy, I am shocked I even knew what either thing was.  I wish I could contribute to this forum somehow.  Thanks for opening my eyes.  You can PM me anytime.  I have my number and email posted here too, here is a link:  http://www.kxriders.com/forums/index.php/topic,8353.0.html
I would like a lesson on the difference.
Thanks!!!

Exactly, I am the "new guy" because I don't sit on my ass all day on sites like these trying to be a smartass like you replying to things people put on here that are looking for answers to problems they never had before. But hey if you get off doing childish things like that good for you, I hope being ignorant and slightly retarded gets you somewhere in your life.

one word to the pics of this motor: ouch!!! ...

many guys here with me riding the KX250F. 08, 10, 12 and a 2013. all bikes run very well without any problems.one of the older bikes has over 200 hours of running.
I think  in your motor is a couple of unseen material error, because after 15 hours from new and with normal use of the bike, should nothing happen like that.

  Hey Time Out here Gents,
The comment on the shift light surely doesn't seem to necessitate the vitriol shot back at Alward.
A simple "Thanks A lot Pal"  would have (I think) diffused the situation much quicker than the retaliation and then counter...
One seven I am sorry it struck such a deep nerve, If you had any association with Alward on the site prior to the comment he made, I assure you he was not personally attacking you.
Don you are right, I don't think Alward was looking to stick it to a new member,  a spur of the moment flippant comment was just thrown out there as a wisecrack (I believe.)
I don't think anyone else thought it was that bad, but you are right. Cheap Shot?
maybe, malicious intent?  None intended.   Now if Motorrad  had said it.. :-D.

I am hoping this doesn't go any further,  One Seven I can't help with the motor,
I'm sorry your not being around here much or long has left you feeling attacked,  the guys here have helped myself and countless others.  You are in a bad situation no doubt, the dealer sounds to be willing at least to help you.  I have had friends who lost their engine not much after yours went and was told,
"The Bike Has no Implied Warranty, You signed the paperwork"
I would hate to see Danger or one of the other guys shut this down on account we can't  play nice.  Now back to your regularly scheduled forum thread!

Hmmmm lets face it those pics hurt just looking at them and weve all seen a lot if not most 250 riders rev the living piss out of a motor BUT I don't care how a motor is ridden now  a day most will stay together longer then 15 friggen hours so I would say this is one of the few that just did not get put together  correctly sorry to see this happen to you bro it just may be time for that AF build.

I'm pretty sure Alward is talking about the guy on the 450 in the video......I don't think he was taking a shot an anyone in particular.....thats not his style.  If you guys can work it out via PM that would be awsome.....but lets keep the hate off the public part of the site.
