2001 kx250 kickstarter gear problems

I have a 2001 KX250 that has the kickstarter stuck in the down position, after 6 or so attempts to start it.
Is this a simple problem with the return spring breaking or coming out of its locating holes? Is this a common problem with KX250's? Will disassemble later today, but was planning to go riding and wondering if it's simple fix or does it involve a bit of work? Thanks for you replies .... Joe.

It is a pretty straight forward fix. It seems the spring has come out, I've had two of my shafts shear so check for wear there too.
