The June issue of Dirt Bike has a good article on Destry Abbotts KX500!

gowen:
hmm. I guess that means I gotta head to the store on my lunch hour..  :-D

FastKX500:
I was watching espn and i seen the hill climbs at pikes peak, that was awesome, the 500 class , i dont think a Kx took the crown though..might be wrong, but it was close, it could of been a 4stroke that won, id love to take my bike up that mountain though.

DanH1:
I've raced Pikes Peak for 10 years. Its a great race. They are starting to pave the hill now. i think this year it will be paved all the way to Glen Cove. [ thats about half way ] over the next 7-8 years they are to pave it all the way to the top. Greg Chicoine was the guy on the KX500. He's got the 500 in a 250 frame, 17" wheels. Pretty BAD _SS bike.

2 days before the race you get up on the mountain at 4am to practice the top half, 11,000ft. to 14,110ft. the next day up at 5am to make 3 runs and a qualifying run on the bottom, 9,600ft. to 11,000. Race day up there at 5 am again and wait--------------------- 500 Pro usually runs around 12:00.
    Pre-stage
    Stage
Make it up to the line 5 wide, Sonny drops the flag and your off
I could talk you through all 156 corners  --
As you get above tree line you feel the altitudes effect on the motor, If your jetting was spot on at the start its starting to run rich now, if you jetted lean on the start its running really good.
Pretty soon you realize that your taking the last Rt. hair pin turn and all thats left is the long left hand sweeper and the finish line.      Now is your last chance to pass if your close enough!

Depending on how well you ran this only takes about 13minutes. Slightly less if your really fast.

Its a race that everyone that likes to go really fast, should be in at least once [ its addicting ] the biggest bummer is that its over so fast and you have to wait another year to do it again.

The race is changing with each mile of asphalt that is put down!!
Entry starts in December so sign up early as the cost goes up as the race gets closer.
I could go on and on, just a few thoughts about the race.
