Very Nice Ride Today In Central California!
bigfabber:
I think 40 miles out of a tank is pretty close to what I'm getting. I find it a little tight for some rides and often carry a 2 litre bottle of get home fuel since most guys I ride with are on 4 strokes. Maybe lighter riders go farther on a tank, likely, but if that was a huge concern I'd ride an XR200 or something. Bigger tank is on the "honey, please" list.

Hey Ted,
Nice rides.
Coincidently, my son & I ride the same bikes as you. (2001 KX500 & 2001 KDX220R). I have tried to track the milage on various trips, and for the 500, it ranges from 21 - 26 MPG. The stock tank is 2.6 gallons, which translates to a possible range of about 55 - 67 miles.
I recently mounted an IMS 3.6 gallon tank and in one outing so far, averaged 23 MPG for a total possible range of 85 miles. Need more data points to feel confident.
On one recorded run on the KDX with the stock 2.9 gallon tank, averaged 29 MPG for a possible range of 84 miles.
Those SSS trails look sweet. If we ever get up to your neck of the woods, we'll have to look you up.

Nothing better than the mighty Oak tree to park your bike on. Looks like great place to ride.

Barry, you are more than welcome to come up and ride with us. The trails are just super! We usually do 2-3 rides each month. Would love to ride everyday, but that thing called WORK gets in the way. ted
