compared with sandblasters engine-id´s  it is a 2002... 
but you should call a kx-dealer to find out the exactly year of the bike ..

does it has a green or black tank??

I just picked a good running kx 500 and I can't find a vin number or engine I'd number anywhere any help would be greatly appreciated

the frame VIN should be on the right side of the frame neck....
the engine I.D. should be right next to the oil filler on the right side of the engine...
if neither of them are there...I'd suspect a stolen bike/parts.

post some pics of the bike.
