KX500AF Jetting

(1/2) > >>

speedywent:
I am posting this because I have just finished my 1994 500AF in a 2006 KX450F chassis and with the kx250 air boot, 450 air filter, Boyeson Rad valve, and CR500 pipe (Thanks SH) the jetting is WAY off. It is jetted so fat that it was slobbering out of the exhaust. I am down to 45 pilot, needle clip at top(N82M), and 155 main and it's still fat. I have talked to a few local jetting experts and they say that being this far from stock is not unheard of because I have so many things that aren't stock now. I am just cautious to go too lean on this thing. Let me say that I did do a leak down test after building the engine and applied soapy water to crank seals to check them specifically so I don't think that it's sucking in tranny fluid. I was just wondering what jets ya'll are ending up with on these 500AF's. I've gotta go and get some more leaner jets tomorrow and order a new needle since stock is N82R and the M that I have in it isn't even shown in the Kawasaki IPC (too rich). But N82M is stock in 2004 modelBTW Sea level and High 90's to 100 degrees so there is very little air around here right now.
Let me also add a special thanks to everyone on here for sharing your experiences of building your 500AF's I have asked many questions or posted too much because most of my questions were answered by searching for them. Thanks again for all of you sharing your knowledge and obstacles to help me build this awesome machine and did it for basically no money after parting out the extra stuff.

I'm in Las vegas and I'm running the following:

Kehein PWK39
168 Main
55 Pilot
#7 Slide
N82M Needle (clip in the middle or one position up)

It's a Service Honda 500AF 2004 motor using a modified FMF Gnarly CR500 pipe and spark arrestor with a CR250 "Twin Air" filter. 91 octane, Redline premix oil at 40:1.

AJ:
The stock jetting for our 06-09 KX500AF's is:

39mm Kehien PWK
6.o slide
13658 needle in middle position
55 pilot
175 main
air screw 1-1/2 out

obviuosly this is "safe" base jetting and intended to be that way at any elevation or air condition.
so read "safely rich"

:)

Yes, it was very rich for Las Vegas! 2000-3000'.

It's been a great bike so far AJ!

I live at sea level and I'm running a leaner needle and a 145 pilot a 155 main, it's still tad rich on the bottom. I'm going to try a 142 pilot this weekend.
