Three 2nd Place at Goshen

(1/4) > >>

Hillclimb#42:
This is my first video, so don't hack on me. Actually the gf ran the camera and I am editing and posting. This stuff takes forever. I narrowed the first round, which took 2 hours down to 10 minutes. I haven't even started with the second round yet. I finished in 2nd Place in all three classes that I raced. I know, I'm the first loser times three. I heard about it all the way home. What do you think Turtle? You guys feel free to give me any film advice you want, but let me say now, "Its harder than it looks," if you are going to tell me that I let off. Plus I heard that one already.

I may have went crazy with the title narration. The 1st bike is a 65 and then he rides the it again in the 85 class, but its still a 65.

tharden:
That is a good video.  What gear do you start off in with the 500?

Hillclimb#42:
Always 2nd. The point is to get the best set-up to run 2nd the whole way. Ocassionaly guys will try a shift, but it is a mistake more often than not. A strictly Hillclimber will often have only second gear (and neutral) in the transmission. That way it weighs less and has less drag in the drivetrain. Thanks. Working on the second round video.

This is a real cut-up version of a Hillclimb. The races are usually 4 hours or more. Racing is more fun than editing.

I would use a launch control if legal in your series, that would keep the front end down on the start, and stand up, attack the hill

Hillclimb#42:
Not Legal, Don. But that is why, it would work. There was alot of rain on a man-made hill which equaled alot of traction. Thanks for the tips. I was kinda off on my rides. Weighting the pegs (while standing) has been the best improvement to my riding. I was hangin low to the seat, trying to keep the bike from getting too squirrely. If I would have been a bit more aggressive, I probably would have changed those seconds to firsts. Its alot easier to know these techniques than to get up there and do them.  The fast guys jump this hill. Many guys have been retired from rides on this hill. The jump's a little out of the range for the stock-length bikes and the 200 class. A fun, entertaining race, but not my favorite hill.

The 200 was under geared a little, so I was trying to load the tire up, then as a dumba** attack, I basically rode my stock bikes the same way. That 's the excuse that I have been working on. :-D

I know that I can improve, and thats the handy thing about the videos. Comparing my rides to the winners' and actually seeing the differences, then trying to analyze the past race for planning the next one. Its hard to tell what I'm doing wrong or right without it. Sometimes a perfect feelin ride is not fast and other times a slow feeling ride wins it. none of these felt real fast
DVD's in the shop=motivation. which we call "Garage Racin"

Its alot of work to condense the video, so I doubt that I will post more. Plus my girlfriend usually races, and her class is right after mine, so its tough to get our own rides taped. We are still working out the details.

Here's the second round condensed version.
