need some info on kx500

kx5's have good reliablility. they won tons of baja and desert races before they stopped making them.
i have a 2007 ktm 300 xc-w. its lighter and easier to whip around but doesnt come near the power of k5. suspension on k5 are better than ktms. took forever to get my ktm setup right
ktm xc-w or xc's dont tire you out and are fast and good for offroad. depends on type of riding yo are doing. nothing beat a 500 at the sand dunes or wide open thru the desert IMO.
as far as street legal depends on your state. i dont think any 2stroke is legal in calif

one other thing. when i switched to my 300 i missed having the power when needed like my 500. when you appraoch an obsticle you crack the throttle and wheely over it. ktm may or maynot wheely depending on revs at the moment.

i ride my k5 all over. i live in northern california,we have mountains w/tight wooded trails. crazy steep hill climbs and wide open deserts. im 6'1" 175lbs and i ride that bad mother all over them all. the only thing i would like better is fuel mileage(going to try a new carb system). the bike was great power and if u learn how to feather the cluch u can lug the k5 just fine.

I ride a 500 in everything from puttin around with my daughters to wide open trying to pull 6th gear. I love the flywheel weight. The only time you notice any loss is when dragin with another 500 or a highly modified 250 (race gas). 4th and 5th gear wheelies are a little harder. Thats the down side. The upside is it acts like a thumper, will lug like a tractor, starts easier, no feathering of the clutch just dump it and go, sooooo much easier to ride and less tiring. If you want to drag, it only takes a couple of minutes to pull off. Best mod to make, $100 to have two bikes, a ripper and poker....

i live in kansas and the bike has a title. how hard would it be to convert it to street legal? what all would it need? has anyone on this site made their 500 into a street legal one? ive seen pics and videos of street legal 500's
