who know what pipe is this?
don46:
If you do a search, you will find some information from AJ at Service Honda, he did say, at least in the begining that they were modded CR pipes. I have one of his and a cr500 pipe I modded, they look almost identical other than one is Pro Circuit and the other is FMF
AJ:
The first photo is a Service Kawasaki (lol mick!)
2008 KX500AF
I made a couple prototype pipes for the test bike.
those did not go on customers bikes.
FMF did make pipes and silencers specifically for this bike.
and all the 2007 and 2008 KX500AF models have FMF pipes made for that model installed on them.
yes they look similar (to the CR pipe) ,and should , ;)
since FMF used the general molds/stampings of a the CR500AF pipe they have made for us for almost ten years as a starting point.
This was a much closer starting place to make the new KX500 pipe from , than a traditional KX500 stamping.(way off)
yes FMF dynoed the varioius pipes and the design to ensure that style stamping and mold where good fit for this engine.
it performs as good or better than a KX500 engine with an FMF OEM styled pipe.
I would be glad to sell anyone a KX500AF pipe and silencer for
thier own home conversions..
but of course i cannot gurantee fitment.
(you may not locate things exactly where i do in our bikes)
but it should be close or easy to make fit.
(if you can get the engine in the 450 frame ,this pipe wouldnt challenge you to fit it to your scoot?)
as far as being good handling and good power,
a local rider just smoked a local MX race in the Open A class
on an 08 model..
not a big deal but proves the bike was plenty competitive
against the 450's in mx.
(this rider was KX450F mounted earlier in the year )
Mick:
Oops...I didn't know there was such a thing as Service Kawasaki.
I thought FMF would use the CR stampings to expedite production. Sure are nice looking bikes. I wish I could ride one. Glad to here other guys are doing well competing on them. Especially in the A Class. I'm not an A rider but I've done very well this year in the B class, especially this fall. 500AFs are amazing track bikes :-o

Hi again,
Thats great AJ I will get intouch with your UK rep, clive i think his name is. Another question is do you do the pipe in the unelectro plated form ? Im old school and prefer that look, I know it takes some looking after but i think its worth it... Cheers
Mick:
I doubt it very much. FMF and Pro Circuit do a run of pipes for Service Honda and that's it. So I imagine SH orders say 100 pipes for a year I believe? And they come plated for ease of maintanence. SH doesn't produce enough bikes to have copius amounts of plated or non plated options. Especially since 99% of riders don't want a "works finish" pipe. Remember SH has to keep some pipes in stock for replacements. And FMF / PC will probably only do runs of 100 or greater...per plated or non plated pipe I imagine. But thank gosh for the replacement stock SH does keep. The replacement PC pipe I ordered this summer was built better than the unit that it came with in 2003. It's nice to see PC continuing efforts to improve models for these bikes. Shoot it probably makes another horsepower with it's improved design...as if it needed it
