6 week Dune Trip!
maddoggy:
dang, thats really too bad you didn't get to ride at killpecker. i've wanted to take a trip there(only 6-8 hrs. southwest of my hometown) but have not had time as of yet. that's some very ugly country around killpecker but north of there 50-75 miles it turns into some of the most beautiful mountain country you've ever seen. i'm glad you found some quality Wyoming boys to help you out in your time of need. a small side note here, did you know that killpecker dunes is the 2nd largest active sand field in the world? that info came straight from www.duneguide.com. hope the rest of your trip goes better. MADDOGGY

We got off to a rough start, mechanical problems, minor medical emergency, etc. We decided to blow off North Dunes in Walden, Co due to time constraints. Instead we headed for Killpecker Dunes outside Rock Spring, WY. We arrived at the dunes at sunset and it started to rain. It rained all night and the next morning it was very cold and wet. Again we decided to skip it. Then we headed out almost 60 miles of some very wet and slipper, about 5 miles up the road we met up with some oil field workers in three trucks. They told us there was no way we were going to make it out and we needed to back up 1/4 mile and turn around. I made it about 1/8 of a mile when the trailer slid off the side. To make a long story short the guys spent the next three hours getting us out and headed the right direction. They followed us 30 miles out the other way till we got back to the highway. What heroes, they wouldn't even take a dime for all there work!
I am really sorry we didn't get to ride at Killpecker, the dunes looked sensational!
