New (to us) KX80's

Hi.  Just got a couple of 80's for the kids. 

I got a 89 a couple of weeks ago that I thought ran great.  Then yesterday, I picked up a 97 for the other kid.  My LORD!!!!!  This thing is a missle.  I am afraid to let my kids on it.  I am 300lbs, and I finally hit the powerband in 3rd, and it spit my fat butt right off.......  How can I tame this thing down?  I ordered a 12oz flywheel weight.  Anything else?

The flywheel weight will help some. Gearing could be something to look at, maybe dropping one or two teeth on the back sprocket or adding one tooth on the front sprocket. This will let the bike make more top speed but will tame that nasty hit of the power band. Just work with the kids real close and take your time letting them get use to the bike. No matter how many times I ride with my 7 year old he always forgets the little things like brakes and where they are located.

The kx80 Is a missle and Is not a good first bike. If your kids are not first timers and are big enough to ride an 80 they will probably do fine. The thing you have to remember Is with your light kid on the bike the bike It just spins the tire and goes forward. with you on the bike It is a giant penny racer It will hook up and put you on your but before you know what hit you. What ever you do never try to ride a kx60 I have never known some one who bought one for their kid that did not hurt themselves trying to ride It. One guy I knew broke His wrist the first time and his ankle the second time, his kid road the bike just fine. How old and how big are your kids what Is their riding experience?

 They always run that way. Darn Kawasaki's. :-D Make sure you keep the bike tuned well. Even, if it seems a little too crisp, you are better off. riding around a bogging bike intensifies the hit of the "powerband". Clutch to go and clutch to slow. Don't leave out how important the clutch control skill is to prevent the panic rev on the new hot rod. When it takes off, they need to know to pull the clutch back in. Its easier than letting off the gas
