We have hammered the "you know what" out of that topic on a KLR650 site I'm a member of. With 46 replies you can find what you need here http://www.klr650.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2733
It's like toilet paper, some are better than others, but in the end they need to do the same job. I use 90wt. or higher gear lube mixed 50/50 with chain saw oil. And yes it can make a mess. I oil every time we take a break. The only cleaning I do is with a power washer and I keep my distance, don't put the tip close to the chain. I put the bike on my stand so the wheel can spin freely. I rode the Iron Range in Minnesota, it was kind of wet but I had no iron dust or "muck" stick to my chain. I oil so often the oil goo's up at the counter sprocket, on the swing arm and wheel. Nothing the power washer won't clean with ease. Oil is cheaper than chain and sprockets.
