I know these things will run. I just dont know how well I will be able to hold the bike up. I am 5foot 6 1/2inches and about 150 lbs. I was thinking shorter fork springs, shaved seat, and stuff like that.

Welcome aboard from another newbie!
I've already received a good amount of help from the people here, so if I can be of assistance, let me know.
I have a project 500 too--every day I'm realizing how big a project it's going to be!
If you'll post or PM the VIN and engine number, my manual has the details as to which model year.

My g/friend rides both an 03 and 04 KX 250 that is set up for enduros. She's about your height and had trouble touching the ground also. We sent the suspension to WER (Works Enduro Rider) and had them lowered 1 inch front and rear. This lowers the bike 2 inches when installed. Nothing is permanent and the suspension can be returned to stock. It helped her out quite abit. Im 5/10 and I even like it! In my opinion, that is the correct way to lower it. Any suspension shop should be able to do it. There are a number of AA enduro riders that have had this done also.
by the way, Welcome!
