90-91 Gas Tanks?

My search for a spare tank for my 91 kx250 has raised some questions. First, are stockers particularly prone to cracking, or is the high demand I see from a 2 year only run (90-91)? Also, if anyone is running an aftermarket oversize tank, any coments, issues?
