Bike theft prevention.

We ride the Canadian river in Okla.City and the area has a lot of what I would call shady characters riding on the weekends.  Once in awhile we will see a newer bike that's black spray can painted.  No one takes can paint to a new bike unless it's stolen.  We just steer clear of them and keep an eye on our sh**.

  Does anyone know if the LoJack requires a power source?  I will do a search later and find out as much as I can.  Does anyone know if the "general public"  ( ME ) can get a LoJack tracking device?
   Perhaps we have some high tech types in this forum who can design a " KX Jack "  a dirt bike transponder.
  I have been stopped once while riding to a trail, ( on a dirt road ) by law enforcement and he was very insistant about knowing my VIN. I was very glad that he asked for that, it is a step in the right direction, to recovering stolen bikes.  I was in the wrong to be on a road and I knew it, luckily the guy was an orange bike rider, gave me a warning and showed me a place to park so I could reach that trail legally.
     Rattle can paint jobs will now set off a red flag to me, I never really thought about that before , but it seems so obvious.

Go talk to your local MC shop and they whould be able to hook you up with Lo-Jack. If not then your local law enforcement agency should be able to lead you in the right direction. Or go here www.lojack.com

Thanks for the info. What I have learned is that the LoJack is a transmitter and requires a
battery to send it's signal. What I was hoping for, is a transponder, a device that simply returns a sent signal and not requiring any power source.
  If anyone runs accross any information, please post it here. This technology already exists, it just hasnt been used yet for dirt bike recovery and may not be perfected yet. It would be nice if the signal sent could utilize cell towers and the return signal could be analyzed by GPS triangulation.
  Someday someone will make this work and I would like to use it. If NASA ever has any dirt bikes stolen the device will be perfected. LOL
