New KX5?
Danger4u2:
I had my dealer do a new unit inquirery, and came up with no new units available also, this was in Aug '04. I did not trust the guy that used to work at the Kawi dealer I use. Sorry to judge someone like I do but he looked and acted lazy to me. So I did a search on Kawi dealers and started personally calling them. I found 2 new units in Colorado. Having never owned a KX500 and not knowing how bad a## they are I sadly, bought only one of them. Knowing what I know now I would have bought them both. I think I called 23 dealers that day.

I hsd seminole power sports do a search for me in march 05. They found 2 in a dealer warehouse in oregon. $4999 later, $700 in shipping, and one month, I had a new k5. 1st time it started it broke the key holding the magneto. 1hr into riding it I was a little lean on a new motor and seized it. After a piston, rings, nikasil, port /polish, and some jetting , I couldn't be happier.

Musturbo, man thats rough siezing a new bike so quickly. My new one was jetted wrong too, but it was too rich. I thought I had it bad, when mine leaked oil, on day one, from the kips seal. Luckily it only popped out of its bore, probably not pressed all the way in. Pressed it back in and never had a leak again. And I love this bike. Like Danger4u2 , I should have bought two of these new. Maybe someday I will buy a second KX500.

I managed to track mine down in Australia off the net from a shop. Apparently the Young guy who bought it took it out of the shop and rode it 10 minutes and decided, according to the shop, that this was not the right machine for him. So I scored it only and had it crated and shipped to me here in N.Z. When I got the crate open I was happy to see a brand spanking new looking 04 Kx500. It was'nt untill I fine toothed it and found a few parts and tell tale signs that it had been trashed BIG TIME. A new rear rim, New bars, and a couple of gouges on the rear frame were the guard bolts up. And a chunk out of the bottom bar mount.
So it may have only done a few minutes work, but inthat few minutes it had been involved in a major. But im pleased to say that now with a few new bits and a good old sort out, thanx to the info on this site, she's a sweet runner with many, many hours of trouble free thrashing behind her. And many more hours in front of her.
Fantastic bikes. They mad a mistake when they decided to stop production of the KX500.

I bought my 2004 new Sep. '03 right when you could buy them. I would have thought that they would be available for awhile. I've seen leftover KX500's sitting on dealer floors, but not really anymore. I think people realized that this was a legend that wasn't going to be made anymore. I've only started mine twice and it's never been ridden !! I think you could call it absolute showroom condition. I may try to post some pictures if I can. :-)
