1989 Kawasaki KX 250 running backwards

I have a 1989 Kawasaki KX 250 and it keeps running backwards it’ll start forward sometimes and then run run backwards later I tried pool starting it and it runs forward for a while but then I start running backwards again has anyone else had this problem please help
