1998 kx250 Engine Compatibility/Carb questions.

I just acquired a roller 98 kx250 and am wondering what year motors will bolt right in no problem. I am having trouble finding concrete info on what motors are an exact fit. It has the OEM 98 exhaust and carburetor. The carb has a wiring harness plug on it, can someone enlighten me on what this is for? Just one wiring harness with a plug coming out of the carb near the choke. No other electronics on the carb like I’ve seen on other KX carbs.
