Factory Racing KX500 - How To Know

If this has been a post discussed before, then apologies.  Newbie syndrome!  So my question or maybe two.  First, is it possible to tell from the chassis # if a KX500 was originally a Factory Racing KX500.   Reason I ask is that I recently purchased a '91 KX500 and the chassis # doesn't fit within the series.  Specifically, the first 11 digits are JKAKXVE19MA.  Digits Eight and Nine should be 12 given that it is a '91.  This isn't some trick someone created as I have a copy of the Certificate of Origin from 1991 with VIN and Engine #.  So, I am scratching my head on what it is.  I have been told by someone who was part of the factory team in the 80's that the frames did not have VINS.   Anyone have any ideas?
