Bower100:
Hello members,
Going by username bower100, I'm Dave from Delaware and a new owner of a well beat up 1984 500 as per VIN # and motor AE001974 #. My first Kawasaki ever, for the past 45 years I've raced Husky's,KTM's,Suzuki's,Yamaha's,Ossa, and Maico in mx or enduro's.
This bike seemed to be a good opportunity to learn about Kx's. Straight up I'm gonna confess joining to aid myself rebuild this warhorse and I've spent a week scouring the site for pertinent information on the air-cooled bike. Hope to have some meaningful discussions with the experts here. I've read several positive comments about helpful members. So off to General KX I go.
Dave

sandblaster:
Welcome Dave.
The early K5's wern't the best handling k5s but they are powerful.
I'm just starting two 83 K5 builds, one as stock as I can make it and the other will be modded to see how good I can make it.
I have several other projects to get completed so the builds will be painfully slow  :-D

Bower100:
I won’t criticize the bike for its handling , I bought it because it’s a true piece of MX history
. I hope to make it reasonably stock  but a few odd pieces won’t bother me especially where availability or cost is prohibitive.
It’ll not planned to be a showpiece, just a nice looking example of a Kawasaki raced in those days. It’ll likely be displayed at pro mx events.  Must contain costs. Dave

ftc:
Welcome Dave, post some pictures of the bike :-D

KXDINO:
There plenty of easy adjustments to get any bike to handle better , I would lower the bike front and back evenly about 20mm , don't worry some of the latest models have trouble in tight turns yz450 19 model wants to stand up to in tight corners , needs to be lowered and shed some weight would help it. all bikes can do with some sought of tuning.
