Geoff:
?? how does a KX500 run a faster 1/4mile than an R1?? I would have thought the power to weight ratio and traction would be in the R1's favour??? What sort of horsepower are you getting out of your 500?

Spider:
Power to weight ratio.

Both being heavily modified - DOT tires on both.

Stock R1 = 1 hp per every 2.64 pound. (410 in weight and 155hp)
Stock KX = 1 hp per every 3.49 pound. (220 in weight and 63hp)

Consider that the KX500 is a two stroke and is quick to make the power, while the in-line takes four cylinders to catch up to the HP. An advantage is that the inline has a large 1st gear and the single 2t has short quick gears.

Both bikes are running race fuel (R1 = Spirits 100MON KX500 = C12 108MON) and have the heads cut for the fuel and heavily modified in every way possible esides Alky and NOS.   and have been pushed to the maximum limit before causing a seizure (well went over the the KX   ) and the KX will still beat it in the 1/8th mile by a good few bike lengths. Two stroke and four stroke horsepower are two diffrent animals.

Timbowe:
Power to weight ratio is certainly a beautiful thing! Specially on the Kx500. Traction on the other hand...

Is usally an issue, especially when you start to spike the powercurve, but still not a loss, just need to learn the technique of (A heating up the tire (B learning to control it and use it to your advantage. (there isn't really one, but just making the best of it)
