New 97 kx250 owner

(1/2) > >>

Jerry Kimm:
Hey fellow KX riders. New to the site, but I am looking forward to learning much from you all in the future. I recently bought a 97 kx250. It had the engine rebuilt just before I purchased it, it also had a new FMF Gnarly Gold Series pipe and a Powercore 2 muffler. Since I've owned it I've rebuilt the carb, put newer tires on it and installed a UNI 3 stage air filter. Oh yeah, I also repaired the rear fender that the previous owner tried to customize by twisting the throttle too much while riding a wheelie. That's been about it so far, but next winter I plan to take it all apart and do a full restore. For now though, I'm going to spend the summer riding the hell out of it. I owned a 2000 kx 500 a few years back, it was a lot of fun, but it was a bit too much for trail riding in my opinion. This seems much more contollable. I will post some pics soon, but for now, I'm going to bed. Gotta work in the morning... Talk to you all later

big green:
Congrats on the new bike!

Jerry Kimm:
Thanks, yeah it's not perfect but I only paid 1500.00 for it and he gave me the reciepts for the rebuild and other stuff he had done right before I bought it, and he spent over 1100.00. I checked it over real good and the frame hasn't been bent and all the welds are original and solid. It's amazine that you can get old 2 strokes in greay shape so cheap now.

big green:
Yes I agree. However I think we will start to see a resurgence in popularity with the amount of r&d ktm is putting into them. Not sure if you heard but km's 200xc will have fuel injection for 2018 in the u.s.a.  Yamaha is now offering a trail version of the yz250 again so it is exciting to see 2 strokes getting some  new life. Don't know if we'll ever see the hay day again but still alive a making power twice as often as there counterparts :-D

Jerry Kimm:
Yeah, I also heard that the US will be able to buy 250's, but the 300's will only be sold in Europe initially. GO KTM! I think they will sell well, I don't really have anything against 4 strokes, but all I have ever owned with dirt bikes is 2 strokes. I'm sure they both have their pros and cons, but I just love the simplicity and power of 2 strokes.
