KDX80 CARB ISSUES
(1/1)
SAINT1000:
I PURCHASED A OLDER KDX 80 FOR MY SON. ITS A 1984. I REBUILT just about everything. new piston, pipe, clutches and steels, re gasketed the whole motor, painted the plastics, new set cover. basicly the whole bike. when i got it togeather, the vent on the carb keep leaking fuel. i figured it was a float or needle and seat problem but couldnt find replacement parts. i bought a oem brand carb and everything was great for a couple of weeks the the vents started leaking again. i took it apart but couldnt find anything that would cause it to leak. put it back togeather and it still leaked, so i called the company and they sent me another carb. i installed it and that was good for a couple months but now that one is leaking. is there somthing i am missing that could be causing these issues. i had put a in line filter between the tank and carb when i rebuilt the bike. the bowl of the carb looks clean as a whistle. what could be causing these to have a overflow problem?
Foxx4Beaver:
have you verified that the float height is set correctly?
your manual will tell you where it should be set, or if you don't have a manual...you should be able to call your local Kawie dealer and ask them.
SAINT1000:
I have a manual and will check that. Just seems weird the first one was good for a couple weeks and the 2nd for a couple months then they start acting up. Was almost going to look in to a different carb but I wouldn't know what to get or where to start with jetting.

+1
E10's given a lot of guys trouble over the years....can't say for sure that this is what your issue is SAINT, but it's worth looking into. I run straight race fuel now...because the great state of Massachusetts is one of the few that DON'T sell non ethanol fuel.
I did a short thread on my misfortune with E10 couple years ago.
