Spark Issues - 2002 KX 250 Project
sburesh:
Hey Guys!
Recently I bought a 2002 KX250. The guy I bought it from let me test it for compression and I consistantly got 125psi so I knew that whatever issues it had couldnt be that bad. While I had the plug out I tested it for spark and there was none so I smiled and offered the guy $200 bucks and he took it. I went and bought a new plug and no spark.
From here I dont know alot... I bought a nice multimeter (no idea how to use) and downloaded the service manual offline. From here I have no Idea where to go.
If any of you have time to help me go through this electrical system trouble shooting or have videos Id appreciate any help I could get. The electrical stuff is not my strong suit.
Thanks in advance,
-Shane

Hey Shane.
Check your manual, 129.084lb is minimum compression...198.70lb is on the upper end.
When you checked the spark, did you keep the electrode against the engine?

I called local shop and they told me that it should be between 115-178?
Yes I held it against the jug.

Kinda got me worried so I looked through some stuff... found this video:

That is an 01' and i think the motor is the same from 99-02 if I am not mistaken.
He sites his service manual compression range at the 115-178psi mark that I was quoted by my local shop. If you feel that this is still wrong please do let me know. Also the only manual I can find online is this one:

Maybe you guys know of a different one?
sandblaster:
Check page 80 of your manual 129 ..... 199
Regardless, with compression that low it's time for some top end work as a minimum.
On your electrical issues... start with the cheapest things first...
This article was wrote for the kx500 but the basic steps are good
