Where to find an aftermarket 1996 rear shock or a rebuild kit??
umberto:
I used this video from Rocky Mountain the first time I rebuilt a shock. I completely agree with Heinz, it's a lot easier than you think it would be.

Just a little update...So before I asked the question on this forum I located a used replacement on e-bay for $78.00. Great I thought. When it arrived it looked the part so I disassembled my bike. I noticed right away when I began installing the shock the top mount was turned to the left more than the original shock. It wouldn't fit at all, the bladder would hit the frame before the top mount would line up. After a bit of cursing I realized although the shock was for a "1996" 250 it was for a rm250 not a kx250. Dangit I hate when I screw up! found a rebuild kit for $129 plus oil and bolts misc About $200.00.....called a local shop for them to rebuild..$450.00...Aftermarket replacement $1300...WTF! So I considered selling it then I thought what the hell do I have to lose? I cut one side of the bracket off bent the other until the shock felt happy in its new home then built a custom bracket out of 3/16 plate. welded it up painted it Kawasaki green boom! Done! I wanted to do it right but couldn't justify the expenditures. It actually works perfectly and looks great. Ill post a few pics thanks for all the help! I suppose necessity IS the mother of invention! :-D
