Check out mikectanker's thread 2001 rm250/ 1994 kx500 sf conversion. He had issues with his tank if I recall. Yours will definitely be tight!!
mikectanker:
Banned cr500 riders. Com has some tank molding threads. Research the cost of the tanks new and used. I used a harbor freight heat gun. Some guys use hot water but I couldn't make the hot water trick work on my suzuki tank.
Heat and use some thing to push on the tank when it gets flexible. I used a big socket and extension to push but something more ball shaped would be better.
You must hold the hot area while hitting it with cold water. You will need to heat mold and reheat several times. I spent 4-5 hours doing this.
Keep the petcock on the tank. get someone to help you hold things if you can. I did mine by myself and it was a *b**ch.

Didn't come with black box or ignition coil. or kick starter :| meh what to do, Im considering an ecotrons efi kit for the efi advantages and if i understand it correctly, it will function as my spark signal so Ill just need to buy a cheap coil. All the CDI's i can find are like 160 holy moly! Still doing research on a solution for this, will keep updated. I think I need to move this to a new thread in a new location too. I will post a link shortly to what will be the YZX500 build, see there for photos and updates!
