YZX500 Motard!

scottysg:
Hello all! My name is Scott and I just bought a 1988 KX500 motor to put in my CA street legal yz250.

I have a 2002 yz250 which is setup motard style. I use it to go to work about half the time, and it is severely underpowered for street use blasting down PCH like a hummingbird. With 14f 40r gearing(required to go 65 for extended time), it doesn't have the torque to lift the front very easily. lame almost as bad as a CBR250. Ive read a lot of 500 motard posts explaining that the front will not stay down. Im 6', 155lbs and i sure hope they're right, for what i have into this bike. I chose the kx motor because it has a power valve, something i am relatively new to (in my yz), which should help me make lots of power and be able to control it semi decently. I grew up living and breathing banshees, so I LOVE a lightswitch power band, don't get me wrong, but i think this is the right choice for the street. When I get used to the 500, you'll see me looking at power adders like nitrous or more likely a turbo to bring the poop in the pants level up. Did that to my mustang and WOW no looking back. once i sort out the electricals of how to run an oil pump and all my lights...watch out!

If anyone has a decent rolling chassis ready to take my yz250 motor, hit me up! That motor works awesome off-road so i plan to throw the yz250 motor in a frame and make that my off-road bike, and keep the yzx500 for street use. We'll see if i can keep up with my buddy's triumph daytona now! Any tips, advise, or knowledge is very much appreciated as I am totally new to KX's.

I will make a thread and post pics once parts start arriving!

Have you considered just putting the K5 motor in a newer AF frame and leave the YZ as is?
