yeah that sucks!...I know all about the helmet/chin deal all to well...I cased an uphill, soft sand 60' triple really bad Thanksgiving Day of 04, I was the "guinea pig" to try this particular jump 1st...I was on my new 04 KX250...the second I was in the air I knew it was all bad....landed square on the top of the "peak", slammed my head off the bars, and went down like a punk bitch sissy!....took 42 stitches to close the FLAP of meat that the nurses thought was another mouth when I walked into the E.R.
Good to hear your buddy is ok VFR!...seeing/hearing your friends hurt like that is a scary thing!

From what I hear, by Mid June its pretty dang Hot there... most locals will only ride a bit in the mornings when its' still cool I guess. Most of the Canadians I know who make the trek will only go in May and late september/october due to heat.

Thanks Vfr that's what I'm trying to get away from (heat)!! Anyone have any nice n cool riding spot ideas for me mid July thru August
