KX500 as a trail bike??

(1/3) > >>

mercenary:
Hey folks.  Now before you think I have gone off the deep end hear me out :D

I recently had the opportunity to ride an CR500 (be nice now) and got positively hooked on the power.  Since I have been a long time Kawasaki fan I believe the logical route for me is to purchase an KX500.

Now here is the rub.  I dont race or compete in any form at all.  The bike would strictly serve my power addiction and trail duties.  I have looked at the alternatives (XR400,WR450,KDX220) and I dont think I would be very happy with the power output of these models.  I crave power.

How many of you good folks just use your KX500's for trail and fireroad duties.  The trails around here are not too tight at all but can get quite muddy.

Would the KX suit me or am I out to lunch?

Paul:
I use mine for everything from the tightest singletrack to the fastest raceways and it's served me very well everywhere.

mjscore:
I have an 86 KX500 that all I do is ride trails and climb hills with. I recommend that you install the V Force reeds and a torque spacer on yours and you won't be disappointed. Mine almost feels like my XR650 did as I have lugged it a few times. If you need more tractor like power try a flywheel wieght I'm told.

husqrider:
in my opinion, the KX 500 makes a great trail bike, especially for bigger guys ( I,m 6'7"  250lbs ) I run a Steahly flywheel weight and a FMF gnarly pipe on my 1997 and it pulls from way down low some what like a four stroke. I ride a lot of tight wooded trails with steep technical climbs and the bike works pretty darn good! You made a good choice on the big 5! have fun

kmac:
Yup, no MX for me, strictly off-road, my 5 is a gas. Stock motor, FMF Fatty, 14/50, thinking about a Steahly, I've got one, just haven't put it on. Apparently a good 5 with a fresh tire can change the rotation of the the earth if it can get enough traction.
