Very First Dirt Bike.

New Dude here. I was looking for any type of bike I could find so I could ride with my son. I just happen to find an 87 KX500 that was in good shape. At first I didn't realize what I have bought until I started asking question and digging up info on my bike. Now that I understand the history of these Big Green Honda Killer's I have spent count less hours and money trying to restore my 87 (So Far So Good). I have already spoken with the BOSS about buying another 500 but I am having a hard time convincing her that I need two 500's. I got a late start with my dirt bike passion at the age of 30 I find myself wanting to race the local hare scrambles. My son has been dirt bike crazy for the last 1 1/2 and he's only 4 now. My wife and daughter play in the dirt as good as the boys but they perfer the quads. I will post a current picture maybe this weekend. I have been viewing this weg site for the last couple of months and have learned alot about my bike.

I posted My pictures in the gallery under the name 87 KX500. One quick question. Is it common for the kick starter to hit the foot during starting or am I just kicking this to hard. I have the kick starter rotated as far forward as it can go and still slide under the pipe.

Sorry about that. I was asking if it was common for the kick starter to hit the foot peg.

um..yeah. I usually just jab mine hard enought to get the engine running but not hit the foot-peg. It's a habit I got into then I put the IMS Ti pegs on my other bike (KX250f) and they literally cut my kickstarter in half. For the most part, I don't think you will hurt anything but hitting the pegs.
btw, when you need a new frame for your 87, let me know. I have one that is darn near new (nary a ding or dent in it). Just needs the paint (already been bead-blasted).
Enjoy!
