Standard Parts list for a 89-04 KX500 Engine rebuild
« on: March 01, 2016, 04:59:46 PM »
This is our current basic parts list for our KX500 builds.
This does not include crank rebuilding, gaskets, piston, cylinder rebuilding, trans gears, clutch baskets, plates, hubs, exhaust valve components, ect.
This is meant to help you decide what parts you may need on your next build as a good starting point... It is not All inclusive...
It is merely a list of parts we will automatically order for our KX500 builds.

The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

Excellent!
Now does the '88 share all of these as well....or does this just cover the '89-'04s?

I don't know for certain.... but I'll bet the majority of them do...

When I figured out the 88 that I had bought was different, I went through the parts list on Rocky Mountain and did some online research.  There are some differences in the gear part numbers, but everything I read said that the later model gears would fit in the 88 cases only.  The 86-87 have different transmissions and will not work with the later model gears, but they do share similar cylinders to the 88.  Dave916 knows a lot about the 86-88 engines, maybe he can verify for certain.  We talked about switching the 88 internals to the 89 and up cases (which fit), but I can't remember if we talked about the other way.
Perhaps I have a dirt bike addiction?
